Redline Racing have continued their quest for title glory in the 2019 Porsche Carrera Cup GB with four class podium finishes across two action-packed races in support of the FIA World Endurance Championship around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. For the first time in three years the championship was tackling the full 3.66 mile layout at the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’, with the team running an expanded five car entry for the weekend as Fraser Robertson made his first outing of the season. Leading the team’s battle at the front of the field across the weekend was George Gamble. Immediately showing strong pace around the GP track, he qualified fourth on the grid for the opening race on Saturday afternoon and held the position throughout. That result earnt him the reverse grid pole position for Sunday’s race two. While he slipped to second early on, Gamble kept in touch within a couple of seconds of the leader throughout on his way to a great sixth podium of the season so far. In the sister Amigos Beer sponsored car, Seb Perez followed up a solid Saturday with a podium challenge in race two. After qualifying sixth of the Pro class runners, he enjoyed some good battles in the opening encounter on his way to a top six finish. On Sunday, Perez picked his way through some frenetic action ahead over the first half of the race to come through to fourth place. A thrilling challenge for third around the outside at Brooklands corner almost paid off, however contact from the other driver sadly led to a spin and retirement. The performance of the weekend for the team came from Jack McCarthy. On his first time competing on the GP circuit, the Pro Am class front-runner made significant progress across free practice and qualifying that put him in a strong position for the two races. In the thick of a three car battle for the class podium throughout race one, McCarthy came home in a brilliant third place. He followed that up with a superb race two, swiftly moving up to the class lead early on before mixing it with Pro drivers throughout on his way to victory number three of the year. Also tasting the victory champagne over the weekend was John Ferguson, who continued his fantastic run of form in the Am category with a sensational drive from fifth in class to a third win of the season. The Irishman unfortunately retired from race two as he battled for the podium again. Joining him in the Am class contest was Robertson. The Silverstone GP circuit presented a tough challenge for his first outing in the series for almost a year, but he showed great improvement across the meeting and picked up a best result of fifth in class in race two. After the weekend's results, Gamble and Perez both remain in the top six of the Pro standings. McCarthy is in contention for both the Pro Am and Rookie titles, while Ferguson sits joint-second in the Am points. The championship heads back to Silverstone for its next rounds on the National circuit on 28/29 September. Seb [Perez] almost joined him on the podium and I’m gutted to have seen him miss out after a brilliant performance though the weekend. “Jack [McCarthy] struggled initially with the track, but he was determined. It came together for him in the end and it was great to see him back on the top step of the podium. Likewise with John [Ferguson], his drive from fifth to first in race one was brilliant and a richly deserved win. “It was always going to be a tough outing for Fraser [Robertson], coming back after nearly a year away. He took the challenge head on though and enjoyed every second. Overall, all five drivers put in strong displays and that’s all we can ask for. We’re excited to come back here again in a few weeks.”
