Motorsport rising star Will Martin will make an exciting graduation into the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain next season, remaining with leading team Richardson Racing as he competes in the fastest one-make series in the United Kingdom. Following a hugely successful 2019 season in the Ginetta Junior Championship, the ultra-talented 16 year old is trading in his Ginetta G40 racer for a thoroughbred 485hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to compete in one of the most competitive series in the country. Martin will graduate to the Carrera Cup GB alongside fellow Porsche debutants Richardson Racing. It will mark his second full season with the Corby-based outfit, having joined them in late 2018 ahead of a standout campaign in the Ginetta Juniors this year. The East Sussex racer thrust himself into the spotlight with a maiden race win at Thruxton in May, with that result kicking off a sensational run of six victories in seven races across the middle of the campaign. He eventually ended the year with an unrivalled nine wins to his name. Martin will be embarking on a third consecutive season competing on the most popular race package in the UK, in support of the British Touring Car Championship, with the move made possible thanks to the crucial backing of his loyal sponsors Lining Division, Proceed, MT Drains and TrenchLine. The Carrera Cup GB has been running since 2002 and has a rich history of producing exciting, wheel-to-wheel racing and launching the careers of talented drivers, including factory GT racer Richard Westbrook, current FIA WEC star Charlie Eastwood and BTCC title contender Dan Cammish. Will Martin: “I am extremely elated to be competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB next year. After a fantastic season in Ginetta Juniors, my sponsors and I looked at the options that were available for 2020 and the Carrera Cup GB really stood out. “Getting the opportunity to race in such a prestigious championship so early in my career makes me so excited and I am extremely humble. As a young driver who wants to go on and race in the Le Mans 24 Hours one day, this felt like the logical next step for me in my career. “The fact that I can make this move alongside the Richardson Racing team is fantastic, as we have developed a strong working relationship across the past 18 months or so. They have helped me a lot in my development as a driver and were key to a great 2019 season. “It is a big step into the Carrera Cup GB for a new driver and new team to the series and we’ll have a lot to learn, but I’m confident that we can all work together to improve even more and make our mark on the series across the upcoming campaign. “It was an unbelievable experience driving the car for the first time at Silverstone recently and I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel for pre-season testing. That will be important to get us up to speed ahead of the opening rounds, but I’m going to take things one step at a time and not put too much pressure on myself going into 2020."
