Blake Angliss is determined to bounce back strongly from an unfortunate weekend to forget in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup at Oulton Park (31 July / 1 August). A five week break since the last outing at Snetterton gave Angliss the opportunity to reflect on a strong start to his maiden GT4 SuperCup campaign, and to prepare extensively for the weekend ahead with simulator work and time with the Century Motorsport team to learn more about his car. The Coventry based racer made the short trip to Cheshire determined to put everything he’d learnt into fruition. He faced a setback on Friday though, with an incident early in the opening free practice session ending his day with just five laps under his belt. That put the Transend UK backed racer on the back foot heading into the weekend, but he took it in his stride and utilised the remaining sessions as an opportunity to continue his education and progression in the championship. After qualifying 14th in wet conditions on Saturday morning, Angliss put in a spirited effort in the opening race later that day. Tackling the Oulton Park circuit in the dry for the first time, he fought hard to move into the top ten just before mid-distance. Improving his lap times by a second through the race, the 18 year old eventually crossed the line as the 12th best Pro class contender. In race two on Sunday, he was battling well on the fringes of the top ten in the first half of the race, however a quick trip to the pits left him 12th again at the finish. The Haigh Group, Splodge Hygiene, Lifeline and Icom supported driver is ready to put the weekend behind him and look ahead to the next rounds in less than two weeks’ time, as he makes the trip north of the border to race at Knockhill in Scotland for the first time (14/15 August). Blake Angliss: “It’s very frustrating that one mistake from me at the start of Friday ultimately wrote off my chances for the whole weekend. I’d worked hard to prepare for the weekend and felt confident heading there for the first time, but sadly it didn’t work out. “I have to say a massive thank you to the Century Motorsport team for staying up late and working hard on Friday to get the car fixed for qualifying, they did an incredible job. Now, I want to focus on repaying their efforts with some good results at Knockhill next.”
