Following an incredible 2020 campaign in the championship, Carl Garnett has more class silverware in his sights this year as he prepares for a third consecutive season in the Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup with leading team AK Motorsport. Building on a strong debut year in 2019, the Yorkshireman bounced back from a tough start last season to produce one of the most impressive winning streaks in the championship’s ten year history, with no less than eight Am class victories on the bounce. Having ended the second event of the season over 100 points behind in the class title battle, the 44 year old from York incredibly propelled himself right into contention with utterly dominant displays at Oulton Park, Thruxton and his home event Croft. Heading into the final rounds of the year with an outside chance of glory, an 11th win of the year meant the former Mazda MX-5 Supercup racer went on to end an extraordinary season of competition just two points shy of the class title. With that experience under his belt, Garnett is looking to make further progress up the order this year as he continues his long-term partnership with the AK Motorsport team. Their preparations have begun for the upcoming campaign with some recent test days. Carl Garnett: “I’m delighted to be able to confirm my return to the Ginetta GT4 SuperCup this year. Last season was a fantastic one for me, as I came on leaps and bounds in my development as a driver and enjoyed some great success across the campaign. “This year is all about building on that and continuing to improve. I want to take another step forward and move myself up the order. There’s some very experienced and talented drivers on the grid, which are great benchmarks for me to aim for. “AK Motorsport are expanding to a four-car entry this season, and I’ve got some talented team-mates alongside me that I’ll be able to work with to improve our performances. There’s a lot to be excited about this year and I can’t wait to get the season started.” The Millers Oils Ginetta GT4 SuperCup is one of the leading single-make GT championships in the UK. Racing alongside the British Touring Car Championship, the series will be contested across eight race weekends at the best circuits in the country, with races televised live through the year on ITV4. Garnett has a long wait for the opening rounds of the season, which take place at Snetterton on 12/13 June. After that, the championship visits Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Knockhill, Thruxton and Croft across the summer, before ending with trips to Donington Park and Brands Hatch again.
