Following his sensational cameo in the closing rounds of the 2024 season, John Bennett will make a full-time graduation into the FIA Formula 2 Championship next year with Van Amersfoort Racing.
The Salisbury-based rising star followed up his fantastic charge to vice-champion honours in the GB3 Championship this year with some standout performances in his debut outings in FIA Formula 2 with VAR during the season-ending rounds in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Bennett scored an exceptional eighth place finish in the feature race in Qatar and showed his racing prowess by gaining a total of 24 places across the four races he contested. His rapid progression was clear to see, as he ultimately ended up matching the pace of the leading drivers by his final race.
That was followed up by Bennett gaining more crucial mileage in FIA Formula 2 machinery during three days of official post-season testing last week. He once again set an impressive pace as he completed over 300 laps of the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
With his performances having impressed the VAR management, the experienced Dutch team – whose former drivers including Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Liam Lawson – were eager to sign up Bennett for a full season in the Formula 1 support championship next year.
Bennett is set to travel the world across the 14-event, 28-race season. Starting in Australia in early March, he will then visit Bahrain and Saudi Arabia before the European leg of the season takes in nine rounds at iconic circuits across the continent.
That will include a debut appearance on the world-famous streets of Monaco (22-25 May) and an exciting home round at Silverstone on the British Grand Prix weekend (04-06 July). The 2025 season concludes with returns to Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
John Bennett: “I am delighted to be racing with VAR in the FIA Formula 2 Championship for 2025. Since my first day testing in F3 with them, it has been a great environment to work in. Thank you to the team for all their support, and I cannot wait to get started next year!”
Brad Joyce – Team Principal, Van Amersfoort Racing: “We are delighted to welcome John to our full-time Formula 2 line-up for 2025. His progression through the final rounds of the 2024 season demonstrated his ability to quickly adapt in challenging conditions.
"The team is certain that he is ready for this next step. We look forward to supporting him throughout the season as he continues to grow and compete at one of the highest levels of motorsport.”
