Team Redline Racing have completed their driver line-up for the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup GB with the re-signing of former race-winner Matty Graham for his second full season in the championship.
Graham is the Teesside squad’s sixth driver for the 2022 campaign, joining the previously announced Adam Smalley, Oliver White, Micah Stanley, Nathan Harrison and Nigel Rice ahead of the championship’s season opener at Donington Park this weekend (23-24 April).
The 25 year old joined the team for his debut in the Carrera Cup GB in 2020. A hugely impressive campaign saw the former British GT4 race-winner combine consistent front-running results with some standout performances to secure a top three championship finish.
The highlight of the season was a sensational breakthrough victory at Knockhill, one of five podium finishes across the campaign. Graham unfortunately found himself sitting out most of the 2021 race season, but did make a one-off Carrera Cup GB outing with Redline at Silverstone.
The Northumberland based talent, who was previously a rising star in single-seaters before his transition to GT competition, has got his first taste of the new-for-2022 Porsche ‘Type 992’ 911 GT3 Cup car in recent weeks and is ready to hit the ground running from the opening race.
Simon Leonard – Managing Director: “We’re delighted to be able to go racing full-time with Matty again this season. He showed us across the 2020 season just how much of a talented driver he is, with some brilliant performances led by his fantastic victory at Knockhill.
“It was a huge shame to see him spend most of last year on the sidelines, so it’s great that his hard work has paid off and got him on track again. He’s adapted well to the new car so far in testing and we’re confident he’ll be a leading contender in the championship again this year.”
Matty Graham: “It still doesn’t feel real that I’m racing the full season in the Carrera Cup GB. We’ve worked hard to get this deal together and I certainly don’t take these things for granted.
”My main concern was that I wouldn’t have much time in the new car, but that concern has been put to rest at the Silverstone media day. I found the car quite comfortable to drive and our lap times were promising.
”I’m pleased to be back with Team Redline Racing after a great year together in 2020. I’m just keen to get going now and see what we can achieve this season.”
Entering its 20th year in 2022, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is one of the most competitive and exciting championships in the UK. Utilising identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, the series has been the launchpad for a number of professional sportscar and GT drivers.
The 2022 season will be contested over eight events at the best circuits in the UK, all in support of the British Touring Car Championship with live television coverage on ITV4. The opening rounds take place at Donington Park on 23/24 April.
