Xentek Motorsport are celebrating title success in their first season in the British Endurance Championship, with the brilliant performances of Bal Sidhu and Josh Steed securing them the GT4 drivers’ honours with a race to spare.
A sensational run of four class victories from five races this season have earnt the South Yorkshire squad their first endurance racing crown, while former Ginetta GT5 Challenge champions Sidhu and Steed both secure their second title successes with the team.
Four months on from starting their 2024 BEC campaign in style with a class win in the season opener at Donington Park, Sidhu and Steed returned to the Leicestershire circuit (10 August) for the penultimate event knowing that a strong result would secure them the Class D / GT4 title.
Impressive pace from the off in their Porsche Cayman GT4 RS saw them go fastest in class during free practice, which Sidhu backed up with another fantastic qualifying performance to put them second in class on the grid for the two-hour race.
Sidhu started behind the wheel and emerged unscathed from an incident-packed opening lap in the class lead. After surviving an early incident with another car, he got his head down and pulled clear of his GT4 rivals over the remainder of his stint.
Steed built on his good work and stretched his legs at the front of the class, eventually taking the chequered flag with a monumental three-lap buffer over the next GT4 entrant. Steed’s lightning pace was rewarded with the championship’s Sunoco Driver of the Day award.
The stunning charge to victory was a fitting way to seal the title victory. An exceptional season so far for Sidhu and Steed includes a 100% podium record in class with four wins and a second-place finish, plus three overall podium results.
Christopher Richards – Team Principal: “We’re absolutely delighted! The British Endurance Championship was an exciting new challenge for us as a team this season and to come away with our first endurance racing title is a massive moment for us all.
“Bal and Josh are an absolute pleasure to go racing with and they’ve done a phenomenal job on track. Their speed and consistency has given them the edge over the competition and they’ve brought home some brilliant results, with the four class wins and three overall podium results.”
The 2024 British Endurance Championship season concludes next month (14 September) with a second trip of the year to Snetterton.
