Xentek Motorsport have continued their impressive 2024 Ginetta GT Championship season with a podium-filled trip to Snetterton this past weekend (13/14 July), as drivers Luke Garlick, Conner Garlick and Jimmy Broadbent all picked up silverware.
Just two weeks’ on from a race-winning visit to Anglesey, the South Yorkshire team made the trip south-east to Snetterton in Norfolk with the addition of popular YouTube streamer Jimmy Broadbent to their line-up alongside siblings Luke and Conner Garlick.
Reigning GT5 Challenge Pro champion Luke led the challenge for the Xentek squad across the weekend. Going fastest of all in official testing on Friday, he then qualified second of the PRO runners on Saturday morning and went on to pressure the leader throughout the opening race.
A brilliant performance in race two saw him fight his way past two PRO rivals on track to secure another second-place class finish, before completing the hat-trick in the final encounter to ensure he remains a comfortable second in the championship standings.
Conner qualified third quickest of the PRO contenders and was unlucky to see a track limits time penalty deny him a podium in the opening race. He made amends in race two, coming home a brilliant third behind his brother, however he unfortunately missed out on a trophy again in the last race.
Successful sim-racer Broadbent meanwhile enjoyed the latest chapter of his on-track career with a debut appearance in Ginetta racing. Getting to grips with a Ginetta G56 GT Pro for the first time in Friday testing, he set a competitive pace from the off and qualified third fastest in the AM class.
After getting blocked at the start of race one, Broadbent impressively fought back through the field to a podium finish with second in class. His overtaking prowess was on show again in race two as he twice climbed the order to third in class, and he unlucky not to make it a podium treble in the finale.
Sarah-Jayne McKenna – Team Manager: “We’re delighted to have had all three drivers celebrating on the podium across the weekend. It was great to welcome Jimmy to the team, there was a real buzz online around his entry and he put in a top performance considering he hadn’t driven the car before Friday.
“Luke was on fantastic form once again and put in three brilliant drives, particularly in race one where he was right in the fight for the win. Conner’s pace across the event definitely deserved to be rewarded with more than one podium finish, but it takes nothing away from another strong weekend for him.”
There’s now an eight-week break until the penultimate round of the 2024 Ginetta GT Championship season at Donington Park over the weekend of 07/08 September.
